Introduction

to the Online Programme

Welcome to the online programme for The Raising the Bar Way.

What you’re about to work through is the online version of The Raising the Bar Way, the same thinking, structure and judgement you’ll find in the book, delivered here as a guided programme, exactly as I would run it in a classroom.

Each chapter from the book has been broken into two short modules. They’re designed to be practical, focused, and easy to fit around real work, because managing people doesn’t stop while you’re learning how to do it properly.

I’ll be talking you through each module, explaining not just what to do, but why it matters, when to use it, and what tends to go wrong if you don’t.

Where a module refers to slides, models or flipcharts, you’ll find them elsewhere on the site. They’re there to support you, to use, adapt, and return to when you need them.

You don’t need to have read the book to work through this programme.

If you have, you’ll recognise the situations.
If you haven’t, you’ll still have everything you need.

Before each module, you’ll see a short “What You Missed” summary. That’s there so you can join the programme at any point and still understand the context, even if you’ve skipped chapters or come here first.

You can work through the modules in order, as a complete development programme.
Or you can dip in when something lands on your desk and you need a steer.

Either way, the aim is simple.

By the time you face these situations in real life, you won’t be facing them for the first time.

Let’s get started.

Read Chapter 2 - Module 1.
